So sorry for the delayed reply here – we had some big trouble without blog so catching up now. No, you don’t need to raise VC capital unless it’s the right hting for your business. That’s the way to approach the question – “What’s the best way for me to get my business to where I want it to be?” Is it bootstrapping, is it commercial capital loans, VC, etc. It’s your call and should always be about the business and what you want, not what others think.

I had to read it twice.

I’m in the very beginning stages of launching my business, and I’m taking this entrepreneur course at MIT. The class is great and provides cool resources (blah blah), but often the conversation among the other entrepreneurs diverts to VC talk and seeking advice on how to exit. Frankly, I’m annoyed at how the media and other entrepreneurs talk about raising millions of dollars and exiting. I can’t even wrap my head around exiting, let alone raising millions and millions of dollars.

I know of this one guy who raised $1M based off an idea, but immediately regretted it because that pressure was no fucking joke. Its okay to … not seek VC funding right? I hope so, because I don’t want that pressure. I’m not interested at all, but the media makes it seem like its the only way for a company to enter the markets they want and succeed. Climbing Mt. Everest solo, in a bikini? I’ll pass. I’ll find another way.

Thanks for posting this blog. I look forward to more of your ‘no bullshit’ insight on what’s its like to build great products and run successful businesses. Its fucking hard, man. And I’m glad someone who’s #BeenThere is writing about it.
